Born in Northampton but soon relocated back to the family town of Preston where I grew up before moving to Carnforth. Now a resident of Carnforth for over 40 years arriving originally at Crag Bank with my parents at the age of 16. They ran the B&B on the A6. I have a daughter and 2 grandchildren. When my daughter was just a month old we frequented the mother and baby group at Crag Bank Village Hall and went to all the associated groups held there before she went to Christchurch and then on to Carnforth High. I worked for Booths supermarkets for 13 years, briefly at Truckhaven before working in the restaurant office at Pine Lake before starting in my current role as an Office Manager.
An Aggregate Industries UK Ltd employee for 20 years now working for the Readymix Concrete division based in the Regional Office at Nether Kellet. I’ve 2 teams: Sales Admin for the North West region and Ops Admin covering majority of England geographically.
Bringing to the town a wealth of business knowledge, voluntary and community experience including being an Adherent, YP & Youth worker for the Salvation Army as well as the responsibility of being their Deputy Safeguarding Lead. We work closely in collaboration with The PropUp Project: a weekly group for teenagers and young adults who find socialising with others their age hard.
I joined Carnforth Town Council 10 years ago and I’m now in my third term as Deputy Mayor and Chair of Finance & Governance for 2023 to become Town Mayor in 2024. I’m the Council’s representative on both the Carnforth Carnival Committee and the Twining Association. I chaired Carnforth Community Support Group which was formed at the start of the Covid pandemic serving our residents in their time of need. This has now formed part of Bay Volunteers serving the wider communities in our district. I’ve also assisted Carnforth Rotary on many occasions with marshalling at the vaccination centre at Carnforth Clinic.
I do try to engage with all council matters arising to understand different issues and situations that I may not be expert on. I value innovative thinking and challenge the status quo of how things have previously done. All because we’ve always done it that way doesn’t mean to say it’s the right way! As a Councillor, its important to me that I balance my council work with my day job and volunteering roles and recognise that this can be challenging at times. I enjoy working along side my Councillor colleagues and the Town Clerk to make our town the best it can be.
