Councillor Jim Grisenthwaite

Chair of Finance & Governance Committee

I was born and grew up in Liverpool but have lived in Carnforth for over 40 years. Most of my working life was spent with Cumbria County Council in a variety of roles and I retired in 2015 as Assistant Director for Community Services. I have served as a Town councillor since 2017 and, amongst other projects, I have been responsible for introducing Film Nights to the Civic Hall (in 2018), arranging for the transfer of trusteeship of Crag Bank Village Hall to the Town Council (in 2021) and bringing the Highfield allotments back under Town Council management (in 2022).

I represent the Town Council on the Civilian Committee of 2246 Squadron of the Air Training Corps and I am a trustee of Carnforth Community Swimming Pool. I have helped to establish strong working relationships for the Town Council with both Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council and have been vocal in support of the Eden Project Morecambe and the benefits it could potentially bring to Carnforth. I have also been an active member of the Carnforth Twinning Association for 20 years; I thoroughly enjoy the regular cultural exchanges with our friends in Sailly-sur-la-Lys, the highlight of which was our trip to France last summer when I represented Carnforth as Mayor.
