Carnforth Town Council is inviting local families and businesses to participate in the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France, on 6th June 1944 by lighting a ‘lamp of peace’ at 9.15pm coinciding with the Beacons being lit in the Carnforth War Memorial Gardens and throughout the United Kingdom.
So if you are unable to make the Town Council’s commemorative event why not light a lamp (any will be fine as long as it is safe!) to represent the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the darkness of war.
We want this to be a very simple and safe way of taking part in this important 80th anniversary occasion. If you do, why not send us a photograph or get your younger relatives (under 16) to draw a picture and send it to us?
You can send/deliver drawings to: Carnforth Town Council, 46 – 48 Market Street, Carnforth LA5 9LB or scan/photgraph them and send to admin@carnforthtowncouncil.gov.uk by 5pm on Friday 7th June. (Please provide contact details so that we can call/email you)
A selection of those received will be presented with a special D-Day ‘Certificate of Grateful Recognition’. All photographs and drawings will feature on a special D-Day 80 page on our new website: www.carnforthtowncouncil.gov.uk
Let’s all pay tribute to those who gave their lives and took part on the D-day landings and whose sacrifice enables us all to enjoy the peace and freedom we have today.
