VE Day marks the end of World War II in Europe and is a time for us to reflect, honor, and celebrate the sacrifices made by countless individuals who fought for our freedom.
Get Into the Spirit!
Schedule of Events:
9:00 AM: Join us at the War Memorial Gardens for the raising of the unique VE Day 80 Flag and a formal Proclamation by the Town Crier.
6:30 PM: We encourage our local churches to join with Church Bell Ringers across the nation and “ring out for peace” in honor of this special anniversary.
9:00 PM: Gather at the War Memorial Gardens for a service of remembrance where we will honour those who served and sacrificed their lives. We hope to see families, friends, and neighbors come together to celebrate with music, speeches, and shared memories.
9:30 PM: Witness the lighting of a Beacon by the Town Mayor, followed by the reading of the Nation’s Tribute and the Carnforth Community Choir, singing with the nation the hymn “I Vow to Thee, My Country.”
Light Up for Peace
Everyone is invited to participate in the National “Lamp Lights of Peace” initiative by lighting candles – provided by Carnforth Town Council — symbolizing our collective remembrance of the sacrifices made during WWII.
